Going out of Mitzrayim, brought the Yidden freedom not by losing their Egyptian masters, but by becoming servants of Hashem.
Thus the Mitzvos complete the exodus, and the first to be given and recorded is Kidush Hachodesh and Ibbur Shanim.
There is something special about this Mitzvah. It makes three points about Yiddishkeit:
1) It reveals the way Torah is given; that so much is secret and you need a teacher and a connection “to get it”.
2) It reveals the “Power” of Torah to rule over (and change) nature.
3) It reveals the point and purpose of Yiddishkiet.
The point of Yiddishkiet and Torah and Mitzvos is to change the world.
This Mitzvah changes time (which is the first creation)
And it changes all of it!
